We'll answer questions such as, 'what was important to the beginning of the modern record business and music industry?' 'What types of social and economic phenomena that developed the Mississippi Delta influenced the rest of the modern US?' 'Why is what we call 'the blues' nearly not at all what was 'the blues' during this time?' 'How did race relations affect the development of artists and the record business during this time?' We'll spend much time reviewing listening examples, destroying a lot of myths surrounding the delta and 'the blues', and students will come away with a method of looking at all historic phenomena with a more vibrant and complete way of synthesizing different facets of history.
