Session 1 will cover:
Formal training from the instructor who will demonstrate safe and successful usage of each tool, describe and demonstrate best practices, and inform the class of unsafe/undesirable outcomes. "Material selection/identification"  "Ferrous vs nonferrous cutting tools"  "Watch out for rotating bits"  "What is a pinch point and how can it maim me?"  Each student will have hands-on time with each tool under supervision.
Session 2 will cover:
Evaluation - students will be tested and checked off with supervision from the instructor -

Metal 101 is a great baseline for general shop use and a prerequisite for welding, we’ll discuss material selection and identification, how to choose the right tools to cut and shape it, and safely and effectively finish parts. Along the way, we’ll touch on keystone concepts of machine tools and their operation. This is a two-session class, comprised of 3-hour segments, the first being explanatory as well as hands-on, and the second to demonstrably put the skills to practical use and answer follow up questions.
Completing the course will provide the student with the skills and signoff needed for the proper use and care of the following tools: Abrasive Cut-off saw, Horizontal band saw, Drill press, Power drills, Angle Grinder, Bench Grinders
Evaluation - students will be tested and checked off with supervision from the instructor -Students have the option to stay later in order to participate in peer review. Learn how to pick the right saw for the job, how to drill holes, and how to grind the burrs down. A quick introduction to the staples of metalworking and the perfect warm-up to welding. This class covers safety requirements, operation, and adjustment of the following tools:
CUT: - Abrasive saw - Horizontal band saw - Selecting a cutting tool - Safe work holding
DRILLING:  - Drill press - Power drill - Understanding RPM - Selecting bits

Through hands-on demonstrations & with the aid of videos from torch mate university, we will familiarize you with the Torchmate CNC Plasma Cutter, going from a drawing to a precise plasma-cut part. You will learn how to import your existing CAD or Vector art files as well as how to create files from scratch, directly on the plasma table terminal. Along the way, we will cover appropriate consumable selection for various metals and thicknesses. Sample materials will be provided & a starter set of consumables is included in the price of the class.
We will cover the following informational videos from Torchmate University, we strongly suggest viewing all 90 minutes of content prior to your first class.
This content, comprised of “16 videos to take you from Zero to Hero” & "6 videos teaching new operators the Basics” can be found by scrolling down, on the following webpage:  https://torchmate.com/university
**Please note that, due to the complex nature of this machine, all members must go through CNC plasma cutter tool training to be able to use this tool. There is no separate testing-out process.
All Materials Provided:  The instructor will provide all metal and plasma cutter consumables for the class.

Evaluation - students will be tested and checked off with supervision from the instructor - Students have the option to stay later in order to participate in peer review.

We will also learn how to make puppet eyes and add facial features. At the end of the class you will be able to apply these techniques used in building your puppet in a multitude of alternate ways to create a host of other puppet characters
**All materials and tools will be provided, however if you own a Dremel tool I highly recommend bringing your own so that when you leave the class it is retrofitted to use for puppet carving.
